The next generation of LPGA stars will tee it up a week before former greats arrive for the LPGA Senior Championship
HURRICANE, UT. – After three successful years, the Epson Tour will return to southwest Utah for the Copper Rock Championship in 2024. In addition to hosting the Copper Rock Championship from May 13-18, The Copper Rock Golf Course will play host to the LPGA Senior Championship the following week, from May 20-25, 2024.
The seventh playing of the LPGA Senior Championship marks the first time the event will be held in the Beehive State. Originating in French Lick, Indiana in 2017, the tournament will play its fourth course in three states in 2024. The Championship first moved to Salina, Kansas in 2022 and returned to the Hoosier state in 2023, playing in Jasper. The double-feature will be run by an all-female leadership team, providing career changing opportunities on and off the course.
“These events are an incredible opportunity to recognize, support and promote talented female athletes,” said Copper Rock’s Director of Operations, Darcy Horman. “When women come together to empower, encourage, and celebrate each other, beautiful things tend to happen. It’s truly an energizing feeling to be surrounded by strong capable women who rally for their fellow females.”
When the Legends Tour arrives in Hurricane, UT, they will be competing for their share of the $400,000 purse, with $60,000 going to the 2024 LPGA Senior Championship winner. Angela Stanford took home her first Senior LPGA Championship victory in 2023, joining the likes of Karrie Webb, Trish Johnson, and Laura Davies. Copper Rock Golf Course will be the first venue ever to host both an Epson Tour event and Legends Tour major championship in the same year.
“I can’t wait to play Copper Rock for the LPGA Senior Championship in May next year,” said Stanford. “I truly enjoyed playing against the women in 2023 and can’t wait to compete again at this wonderful venue in Utah.”
Copper Rock is no stranger to competitive golf, hosting the Epson Tour’s Copper Rock Championship since 2021, becoming one of the premier stops on the schedule. The winner of the 2024 Copper Rock Championship will receive $34,500 of next year’s purse of $230,000. With a larger purse and championship golf course, Copper Rock Golf Course provides everything that is needed for a professional championship, as proven by the past winners, two of which (Dottie Ardina and Bailey Tardy) competed on the LPGA Tour during the 2023 season.
"We are thrilled to be playing a double header at Copper Rock Golf Course in 2024, featuring the Epson Tour's Copper Rock Championship and the LPGA Senior Championship. This two-week golf bonanza promises an extraordinary showcase of talent and excitement from across the women’s game,” said LPGA Commissioner, Mollie Marcoux Samaan. “Copper Rock's commitment to elevating women's golf is truly remarkable as evidenced by their consistent purse increases for their Epson Tour event and now as the host of the LPGA Senior Championship. Bringing together the legends of the game with the LPGA’s future stars is very exciting as we work to integrate all parts of the LPGA to continue to elevate, empower and advance opportunities for girls and women, on and off the golf course. We’re confident that Copper Rock will once again prove to be a magnificent stage for golf's best."
